El Museu de Joguets (the toy museum) sits in the center of Figueres, and here you will embark on an adventure full of fun and surprises. For you will see toys that you or your parents grew up with in their younger years. Maybe you had already forgotten these toys, it gives you melancholy or maybe it is a feast of recognition. Either way, the museum shows you how children enjoyed themselves back then, which is obviously very different today! An educational outing and good change during your vacation.
Always something new
The collection of the Toy Museum of Catalonia consists mainly of industrial toys and games from the late 19th century to today. Every month there are special exhibitions and workshops, the three floors always offering a different theme. There is also a separate area with model trains, which is also great fun to see. For the youngest visitors, a children's area has been set up to color or draw and, of course, discover the toys of the past for themselves.
At their core, toys are about fun, fantasy and imitation.
Rich history & Dalí
The toy museum in Figueres was born more than 100 years ago from many private collections including an important collection of model trains. It even includes a donation from the one and only Salvador Dalì, namely, Dalí's favorite teddy bear called "Don Osito Marquina", bought by his parents in Paris in 1910. Thanks to its generosity, the museum has become an international reference in the field of toys and games. In 1988, the museum was completely renovated and adapted to ensure the proper conservation and display of the pieces.
