Dog beaches Costa Brava

A popular vacation destination, the Costa Brava also offers some great dog beaches. Perfect for our four-legged friends who love swimming in the sea. So a vacation to the Costa Brava with your dog is doubly enjoyable. During the summer period there are special dog-friendly beaches, but outside the high season - from late September to early May - you can basically walk your dog on any beach on the Costa Brava at any time of day. Playa la Rubina - Empuriabrava

The dog beach Playa de la Rubina is located directly in the Natural Park Aiguamolls del Empordà in the famous Empuriabrava. This beach, once the first dog beach in Spain, over a length of more than 200 meters offers the possibility for dogs to run around and play freely, carefree and without a leash. The fine sandy beach slopes gradually to the sea, allowing even smaller dogs easy access to the water with moderate waves. Parking is available right at the beach and is free. A little further on you will find a campsite with a dog-friendly restaurant that even sells dog snacks!

Playa el Rec del Molí - L'Escala

The dog beach El Rec del Molí in L'Escala is among the most beautiful and best dog beaches on the Costa Brava. This intimate bay about 500 meters long has a section designated by the municipality as a dog beach. The beach has beautiful dunes and soft sand, where dogs are free to run around and enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea. In addition, you can take long walks through the dunes and past the historic excavations of Empúries. Parking is possible directly behind the bay and is free.

La Ribera & Port La Vall - El Port de La Selva

In El Port de La Selva, you will even find two dog beaches! The first beach, Playa de la Ribera, is located next to the parking lot of Playa Grande. This beach is ideal for dogs thanks to its soft sand, shallow water, and shelter from the wind, allowing even smaller dogs to swim and play safely. The beach is located on a lively promenade with various amenities such as restaurants, bars and stores.

The second dog beach, Playa Port de la Vall, is located a few kilometers before El Port de La Selva. This popular beach has fine gravel sand, is about 200 meters long and 30 meters wide, and has a section exclusively for dogs. Its crystal clear waters make it a favorite spot for divers, with many surrounding rocks. The beach is located next to a campground and is easily accessible.

Playa de Sant Jordi- Llançà

This new dog beach in Llançà is located in a picturesque cove with sand, rocks and stones. It covers about 500 m² and offers no facilities, but is located in an area close to houses, stores and restaurants. Due to its northeastern location, it can be windy here when the Tramuntana (mountain wind) blows. In summer, this wind actually provides a refreshing coolness!

Playa De Las Barcas- Colera

Colera, a traditionally beautiful coastal village located next to the French border, is well worth a visit. In the center, next to the fishing port, you will find the small and quiet dog beach Playa De Las Barcas. This gravel and sand beach offers crystal clear water and beautiful rocks, ideal for a refreshing swim. In summer, this is the perfect place to swim with your dog and enjoy the cool environment.

Torroella de Montgrí

From the summer of 2023, Torroella de Montgrí will again have a special beach area for dogs. Previously, Playa de la Platera was the dog beach, but unfortunately it has been closed(note that some websites still list it as operational, which can lead to fines). Fortunately, under pressure from various interest groups, the municipal government has created a new area where dogs can enjoy the beach. This new dog beach covers 600 square meters and is located next to Camping El Molino, between the urbanizations of Els Griells and La Pletera.

Palamós & Sant Feliu de Guíxols

In Palamós you will find two dog beaches: Platja de Pere Grau and Platja Gran de Palamós. Platja de Pere Grau is a charming cove with gravelly sand and many rocks, while Platja Gran de Palamós is a soft sandy beach with beautifully clear water where dogs can swim. There are also facilities for dogs in Sant Feliu de Guíxols! In the small bay of Cala del Niu, dogs can romp and swim in the beautiful sea. Keep in mind that this area is busier in the summer and parking can be more difficult.

The reservoir is also ideal with dogs!

The Pantà de Boadella, one of the largest reservoirs in Catalonia, is located on the Costa Brava near the picturesque villages of Darnius and Boadella. This beautiful natural area offers numerous opportunities for water sports such as swimming, fishing and canoeing.
